'Over-enthusiastic clamping' hurting business

Call are being made for Dublin City Council to ease parking restrictions because of what is being dubbed 'over-enthusiastic clamping'.

Retailers in the Rathmines area of the city claim parking enforcers are making €1,000 a week from one short section of the main street alone.

Tony Greene a barber on the street said it is hurting business because customers are so nervous about getting clamped.

"It's a big problem in Rathmines, it seems to have intensified we are losing customers at a terrible rate," he said.

"They're coming in from outside the town to do a bit of shopping in the area and they are jumped on by clampers

"They are very over-enthusiastic and it's just a major problem really."
