Rabbitte calls on public to give opinion on replacing TV licence

The public is being encouraged to have its say on the new charge replacing the TV licence.

The Minister for Communications Pat Rabbitte this morning published a consultation paper on the Public Service Broadcasting Charge.

The charge will apply to all households and businesses where people access TV, regardless of the device they use.

The Minister claims the charge will ensure efficient and sustainable funding for public service TV.

Meanwhile, the Broadcasting Authority of Ireland is this morning launching a separate consultation on its new draft strategy.

BAI chief executive Michael O'Keeffe said it is important that consumers get involved.
