Two men charged over €600k drugs seizure

Two men have appeared in court charged in connection with the seizure of almost half a million euro worth of cannabis in the capital.

David Gill, a married father-of-three of Leopardstown Road, who coaches Gaelic football in south Dublin, and Rafal Chylinski, a Polish native with an address at Castlecurragh road, Mulhuddart, were arrested and charged following a series of searches.

A large sum of cash was also recovered during the operation.

The raids were carried out by Gardai from the Surveillance Unit, the Garda Organised Crime Unit and local drugs units.

1kg of cannabis herb was recovered, and three of the suspects were arrested, after a car was stopped on the Kylemore road, Ballyfermot yesterday afternoon.

Shortly afterwards a van was stopped and searched on Clonsilla road. On that occasion, 8.5kg of the drug was recovered and the driver, a man in his late 30s, was arrested and taken to Blanchardstown Garda Station.

The biggest haul of the three raids was yet to come as officers found 15kg of cannabis during a follow-up search at a house on Dale Road in Stillorgan.

A large sum of cash was also found when another house was searched.

Gardai believe the drugs are collectively worth around €600,000.

Chylinski was granted bail and ordered to appear in court again in October.

But Gardai objected to bail for Gill on the grounds that he was caught “red-handed” and because of the value of the drugs and the likely sentence if convicted.

He’s been remanded in custody but has been given consent to bail and is due to appear in court again in Tuesday.
