A new hospice is to be built in Wicklow - after a charity raised almost €3m - with the help of Daniel Day-Lewis.

A new hospice is to be built in Wicklow - after a charity raised almost €3m - with the help of Daniel Day-Lewis.

The Wicklow Hospice Foundation will proceed with the 12 bed facility in Magheramore - as the HSE has committed to funding the other half of the building costs.

Actor Daniel Day-Lewis, who is a patron of the Foundation - arranged to have the European premiere of Lincoln held in Dublin - to raise funds for the Hospice.

The HSE has committed to including the facility in their 2014 service plan and pre-planning has been submitted to Wicklow County Council.
