Cork men 'very lucky' to be rescued after small boat capsizes

Two young men had a lucky escape after their boat capsized in West Cork in the early hours of this morning.

The RNLI Lifeboat received a mayday call at 4.25am after the pair got into difficulty when their seven-foot boat capsized just off the Pier at Courtmacsherry Harbour.

The Lifeboat and the Coastguard Helicopter from Shannon responded and the two men were pulled ashore.

They were not injured during the incident, but are said to be suffering from shock.

Vincent O'Donovan, the PRO of the Courtmacsherry Lifeboat said the two men were very lucky.

"It was a potentially life-threatening situation," he said. "It was a very small boat, a seven-foot boat, and these two young boys, certainly, from Cork City, were very, very lucky that they were saved this morning."
