Kelly murder suspects released without charge

Two suspects in the murder of a man in Kilmainham in Dublin last week have been released without charge.

They were taken in for questioning after Michael Kelly, a 27-year-old from St. Teresa’s Gardens, was shot dead in a gangland style hit.

Kelly, a small-time drug dealer, was killed in daylight hours as he walked along Grand Canal Place last Monday week.

The gunman approached him, shot him in the chest, and left him in an area known locally as the Dry Canal.

He then made his escape in a getaway car that was waiting nearby and was later found burnt, with a gun inside, at Rialto Court.

Kelly was well-known to Gardaí but was not considered a major player in the gangland scene, and detectives believe his murder may be drug-related.

The first major breakthrough in the hunt for his killer led to the arrest of four people earlier in the week.

Two of them, a man and a woman were released without charge earlier today.

Detectives are continuing to question two women in connection with their investigation.
