'Abducted' property developer to appear in court

Property developer Kevin McGeever will appear in court today in Co Roscommon to face charges in connection with his alleged abduction.

The Mayo-born, 68, was being pursued by investors and creditors when he vanished in May last year.

8 months later he was found wandering on a roadside in Ballinamore in Co Leitrim.

He told gardaí he had been thrown from a van by a gang who had kidnapped him and kept him locked in a bunker, where he had nothing but ham sandwiches to eat.

He had lost more than four stone in weight, had grown a long beard and fingernails. When he was found he had the word thief scrawled across his forehead.

However, Mr McGeever's story came undone and he was questioned by gardaí in March on suspicion of wasting garda time.

Last night, he was arrested in Clontarf in Dublin and taken to Gort Garda station in Co Galway, where he was charged in connection with his alleged abduction.

He is due to appear before Strokestown District Court in Co Roscommon at 10.30am.
