Gardaí launch murder inquiry after death of dissident republican in Kildare
Gardaí investigating the death of well-known dissident republican Larry Kane in Athy, Co Kildare have officially launched a murder enquiry.
The 56-year-old, was found seriously injured at St.John’s Lane shortly before midnight on Thursday. He was taken to Naas General Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
A post-mortem examination was carried out by the Deputy State Pathologist yesterday evening.
Preliminary results reveal he died and as a result of injuries sustained during the incident.
A technical and forensic examination of the scene is continuing and the area remains sealed off.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who saw or was in contact with Larry Kane on Thursday or who was in the vicinity of St John’s Lane between 11pm and 12am on the night of the incident to contact the incident room at Athy Garda Station 059 8634210.
