Kildare man dies following suspected assault

A man has died after a suspected assault in Co Kildare.

The body of the 56-year-old was found in a walkway in Athy at around midnight last night.

Gardaí said the man appeared to have sustained a wound to the head, and officers provided first aid on the scene.

The man was taken by ambulance to Naas Hospital where he died in the early hours of the morning.

The area has been sealed off for a forensic examination, and the Office of the State Pathologist has been informed.
