Doherty to lodge complaint to Norris comments

A Fine Gael TD is to lodge a formal complaint over what she says are sexist comments by Senator David Norris.

Regina Doherty said she found the senator's comments to be “deeply inappropriate".

She will now make a formal complaint to the Leader of the Seanad over Senator Norris' choice of language.

Regina Doherty says she was upset by the personal nature of the remarks Senator Norris made about her.

Miss Doherty, who is Fine Gael's deputy director of elections, has said his comments have done nothing to strengthen his claim that the superior level of debate in the Seanad means the upper house is worth saving.

She commented that his remarks were contrived and intentional.

The senator had criticised Deputy Doherty for claiming she had never heard of the Seanad before running for the Dáil.

He said he should not have to listen to "the Regina Monologues" and said the Meath East TD was "talking through her f***y".
