Half of all people who sought advice from the Free Legal Advice Centre (FLAC) last year needed information regarding family law, money and debt issues.

FLAC has published its annual report for 2012 today which the group says shows there is a need for accessible legal information, advice and fairer systems.

Over 25,400 people accessed their phone line and centres for advice last year.

"One of the big things for FLAC in 2012 was that a personal insolvency law was finally brought in," said the organisation's director general Noeline Blackwell, who is calling on the Government to address the issues thrown up in the report.

"We would say to Government first of all: can you please start to implement it?

"It is still not live, and it is really important for people that it be live… and we also really do ask Government to address other issues that came up including an awful lot of unfairness in our social welfare system."
