Lucinda Creighton has said she was not criticising her Fine Gael colleagues when she told the Dáil there was a "groupthink" evident in the debate on abortion.

Lucinda Creighton has said she was not criticising her Fine Gael colleagues when she told the Dáil there was a "groupthink" evident in the abortion debate.

Writing in the Irish Mail on Sunday today, the former European Affairs Minister said she rejects the idea of a party whip on an issue of conscience, and wrote that she wants to "set the record straight" regarding her expulsion from Fine Gael.

Deputy Creighton lost the whip of her party after she voted against new legislation to allow for abortions in cases of suicidal ideation.
