Man's body found at scene of Killarney explosion

Gardaí searching for a missing person at the scene of an explosion in Killarney yesterday have recovered the body of a man.

The body has been removed to Kerry General Hospital in Tralee, where it will be formally identified.

The search for local businessman James Gleeson has been ongoing since yesterday morning, following an explosion at a laundrette in Kenmare Place.

The scene has been preserved, and rescue teams are continuing to clear rubble from the area.

The hazardous state of the building has hampered search efforts.

The explosion in the Kenmore Place area of the town centre happened at around 6.30am on Saturday.

A number of people were treated for minor injuries.

The explosion blew out the walls of the premises while windows in a number of nearby buildings, including a hotel, were smashed.

An investigation is under way to confirm the cause of the blast.
