'Kiss and make up' approach with Merkel not necessary says Varadkar

The Transport Minister said that he does not think there will be a need for a 'kiss and make up' with Angela Merkel over the Anglo tapes.

It is after the German Chancellor expressed her contempt for the content of the tapes, adding that they were damaging to democracy.

Earlier the Social Protection Minister acknowledged how offensive the tapes were, given one executive was heard singing the now banned "Deutschland Uber Alles".

However Minister Leo Varadkar does not think there will be lasting damage with Germany.

"There is two sides to the story as Angela Merkel pointed out German tax payers are guaranteeing our bailout, not just of our Irish banks but Irish public sector and welfare spending

"But also German banks had a role in causing the crisis too so I don't think it's a case of kissing and making up it’s just a case of moving on and looking to the future."
