SF: Anglo tapes scandal raises questions over Quinn case

Sinn Féin is raising the prospect that this week's tapes of internal phone calls within Anglo Irish Bank may raise questions about the Sean Quinn affair.

The bankrupt businessman, who was once Ireland's richest man, was jailed for contempt of court for putting assets beyond the reach of Anglo's successor, the IBRC which says it is owed €2.8bn.

The Quinn family contests the legality of many of the loans received from Anglo.

The party's Caoimhghin O'Caoláin told Northern Sound Radio he believes the tapes may vindicate the Quinn family.

Mr O'Caoláin said: "I do believe that the disclosure of the full facts and all the information will indeed vindicate his (Sean Quinn's) position and his family's in the bigger picture in terms of the unfolding episode of the story of Anglo Irish Bank."
