Pipe bomb blast forces evacuation of Cavan homes

A number of homes in Bailieborough in Co. Cavan were evacuated overnight when a suspect device, believed to be a pipe bomb, exploded under a car.

The incident happened at around a 12.14am in the Bex Court View estate in the town.

No one was injured, but the vehicle was damaged.

The Army Bomb Disposal team was called to the scene and residents were allowed back into their homes by 4am.

Gardaí in Bailieborough are appealing for anyone with information in connection with this incident to contact them.
