The condition of cars on the road is in decline as people hold onto to their cars for longer due to financial strains.

A survey carried out by AA Ireland said that it has seen a 5% increase in call-outs to assist motorists in the first five months of this year compared to last.

"People are holding onto cars for longer," said spokesperson for the AA Arwen Foley.

"In a poll we did last January 79% of people polled said that they would hold onto their car for as long as they could

"Cars are getting older, there aren't new cars on the roads older cars need a little bit more attention they will suffer more from wear and tear."
