Suspect device forces evacuation of An Post office

An Post workers have been working throughout the night to minimise delays after a suspect item was discovered in a package in their Portlaoise centre.

The discovery forced the evacuation of the base for some time yesterday evening.

Members of the Army Bomb Disposal Squad were called in to deal with the package after staff based in the Clonminem Industrial Estate discovered the item.

Work resumed at the centre last night but An Post has said it regrets that due to the evacuation there may be some delays in the processing of mail.
