The Minister for Social Protection and deputy leader of the Labour party Joan Burton says Eamon Gilmore has her full support.
The latest MRBI poll shows support for the Labour leader has fallen and Gilmore is now the least popular leader in the country at 16%.
Support for the Labour party also fell by one point, down to 9%.
However, Minister Burton says Gilmore is doing an important job.
"He's working very hard as Minister for Foreign Affairs, building and rebuilding Ireland's reputation abroad. It's very important and means Ireland will be able, we hope, to say goodbye to the formalities of the Troika this year."
"I can't stress how important his job is."
When asked if Gilmore has her full support, Burton simply added: "Yes."
Meanwhile, a small group of protestors briefly disrupted Minister Burton's doorstep at an event organised by the Irish National Organisation for the Unemployed in Dublin.
The group of around 15 people are opposed to the property charge and the government's JobBridge scheme.
