Crèches under spotlight at Oireachtas Committee meeting
Minister for Children Frances Fitzgerald will come before the Oireachtas Health Committee today to discuss concerns over childcare facilities.
It follows a recent exposé on 'Primetime' about the mistreatment of children and inadequate inspections at a number of crèches.
Today's meeting hopes to address the reasons behind such poor childcare standards and to allay concerns by parents.
Committee Chairman Jerry Buttimer said that the enforcement of appropriate inspections must be prioritised.
"We will be seeking answers regarding the issue of vetting, inspections, enforcement, along with sanctions and regulation," he said.
"This is about making sure that children who are under the care of others are looked after and that their welfare is met."
