15 businesses shut down in May for breaches of food safety hygiene

Fifteen businesses that serve food were shut down last month for failing food safety regulations.

The Food Safety Authority said that May was one of the worst on record for breaches of food safety.

"The ones we are taking about here would be gross breaches of basics of food safety hygiene," said Dr Bernard Hegarty of the FSAI.

"We're talking about several cases of pest infestations so mouse, rat or cockroach type infestations."
