The Cabinet has signed off on legislation to hold a referendum to abolish the Seanad.

The proposed 32nd amendment to the constitution bill will be outlined by the Taoiseach Enda Kenny and Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore later today.

They will also outline proposals for reform of the Dáil which would kick in if the people agree to the abolition of the Seanad in a referendum this autumn.
