Court charges two Dublin teenagers with murder of German student

Two Dublin teenagers have been charged with the murder of a German student.

Thomas Heinrich was stabbed to death outside an apartment complex in Rialto in December 2012.

The 22-year-old was studying international media here in Ireland and he had been at a party with a friend in an apartment on St. Anthony’s Road on December 1, 2012.

Gardaí believe an argument broke out inside and the student from Munich was stabbed outside his complex a short time later.

He died from a stab wound to the stomach.

His friend was also attacked and spent two days in intensive care after being knifed eight times.

Two teenagers, aged 16 and 19, were arrested this morning and brought before the Children’s Court where they have been charged with murder.

They were both also charged with the serious assault on Mr Heinrich’s friend.

The younger of the two, who cannot be named for legal reasons, will appear before the Children’s Court again on Tuesday.

His legal team have indicated their intention to apply for bail that day as he is due to sit his Leaving Cert the following day.

While his co-accused, Wesley Kelly with an address on St. Anthony’s Road, has been remanded in custody to appear in court again on Wednesday.
