Health Minister James Reilly has welcomed the passing of new legislation which allows for greater use of generic drugs.

The 'Pricing and Supply of Medical Goods Bill' will allow pharmacists to substitute medicines which have been marked as interchangeable by the Irish Medicines Board.

Dr Reilly said it will substantially reduce medicine prices for both the State and patients.
