'Man of the year' Shatter to make statement on Wallace row

The Justice Minister Alan Shatter is expected to make a statement this morning on the on-going row with Deputy Mick Wallace.

He has been accused of abusing his powers after he revealed that Deputy Wallace had been stopped for driving with a mobile phone but no penalty points were issued.

Minister Shatter said the information is a 'matter of public interest'.

Wallace has described Shatter's actions as a 'serious abuse of power' and is to lodge a complaint with the Standards in Public Office Commission.

Despite calls for his resignation, it is not all bad news for the Justice Minister because he is also due to receive a Man of the Year Award this morning.

Shatter will be given the honour by Africa World Newspaper during Citizenship Ceremonies in Dublin this morning.

It is to recognise his work in establishing the citizenship ceremonies last year - which he says gives "proper recognition to the importance of the granting of Irish citizenship."
