Kenny backs Shatter in Wallace row

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny has given his backing to the Justice Minister Alan Shatter over his use of confidential garda information in relation to Independent TD Mick Wallace last week.

Minister Shatter is coming under increasing pressure to explain how he obtained private information about a TD's brush with the law.

Speaking to reporters in Boston last night, however, Kenny said he was behind his Justice Minster.

Deputy Wallace is accusing the minister of abusing his powers, but Shatter says the information is a 'matter of public interest'.

Minister Shatter is expected to address the controversy in the Dáil this week.
