Gardaí identify man found near rubbish chute in Cork

Gardaí have confirmed the identity of the man whose body was found dumped in a refuse chute in a Cork city apartment complex on Monday evening.

The dead man has been named as 59-year-old Liam Manley, a long-term resident of the Simon Community who was originally from Baker's Road in Gurranebraher.

A post mortem examination confirmed that Mr Manley was the victim of an assault and gardaí upgraded their investigation to an "unlawful killing".

According to gardaí, Mr Manley had no known connection with the flat complex and they are trying to establish if he entered the complex with someone he knew.

They also said that CCTV footage from the North Gate Apartments and surrounding area will prove vital as they try to identify whoever assaulted him.
