Witness appeal launched over Monaghan hit and run

Crimestoppers is launching an appeal for information relating to a hit and run in Monaghan nearly two years ago that claimed the life of a 20-year-old man.

Fintan Traynor was killed after he was struck by a car as he walked home to Lemgare Road in the early hours of Sunday June 26, 2011.

He had taken a taxi as far as his uncle's house - which was around three kilometres from his own house - after attending a family reunion.

He set off to walk the rest of the way and CCTV footage from a neighbour’s home shows a figure passing at 2.41am.

Fintan's uncle came across his body on the road later that morning.

Anyone with information is being asked to come forward. In particular gardaí are looking to speak to anyone who may have noticed damage to the car of a person known to them around the time of the incident.
