Fine Gael backbenchers who disagree with the draft abortion legislation say they want to be able to repeal the law if the number of terminations increases significantly.

The proposal by Cork North West TD Michael Creed would see the Bill brought back to the Dáil once a year for approval, or to be abolished, if it increases the current average rate of 20 to 30 terminations a year.
