Ireland is to provide €5m over the next five years to help eradicate Polio.

The announcement was made at the Global Vaccine Summit which is being held in Abu Dhabi today.

Globally cases of the disease are at an all time low but Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria remain problem areas.

The disease was eradicated in Ireland in the 1950s and 1960s due to a rigorous vaccination programme.
