Over half of Irish women buy new clothes every month

A survey conducted by Pembroke Communications into Irish women’s style and beauty habits reveals that over half of Irish women buy new clothes every month.

A poll of 320 women found that one in four spend up to €2,000 a year refreshing their wardrobe, while 28% said they spend between €500 and €700 a year on hair and beauty treatments.

The research also shows that 70% visit the hairdresser or beautician more than six times a year.

Despite this, the research reveals that economic conditions are having an impact on style and beauty habits. Almost three quarters (71%) say the recession has curbed spending on fashion.

The survey shows that Irish women are more likely to purchase clothes online than beauty products.

In the last six months 73% said they have purchased clothes online while only 39% have bought beauty products.

Victoria Beckham is the celebrity style Irish women most admire - followed closely by Irish actress Amy Huberman.

The top five most stylish women are:

1. Victoria Beckham (26%)

2. Amy Huberman (23%)

3. Olivia Palermo (21%)

4. Kate Middleton (18%)

5. Kate Moss (12%)
