Incidents of biting on the rise in Ireland
The Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons has issued a warning to people about the dangers of biting following on from this week's Luis Suarez affair.
The organisation said that the number of people being treated by plastic surgeons in Irish hospital is on the rise - the majority of which are alcohol related.
15 to 20 biting incidents are dealt with every month across the country.
Plastic surgeons say while a fingertip severed with a knife can be reattached bitten body parts like ears, noses and even lips are more difficult to treat.
The advice from the Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons is to avoid excess alcohol and situations where aggressive behaviour is likely in order to preserve your nose and ears.
