Burton hopes to save €1.5m with cut to communion and confirmation grants

The Social Protection Minister said that she wants to save €1.5m a year by abolishing the special welfare payment for religious ceremonies.

Joan Burton's told the Dáil the payment was meant to be for exceptional events and that welfare recipients should be able to plan ahead for communions and confirmations.
