Murder suspect in Garda Donohoe case left country before warrant issued

It is believed the chief suspect in the murder of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe has fled to the US.

It is understood the man in his 20s, and from South Armagh, is now living there illegally.

Detective Donohoe was shot dead during a botched raid on a Credit Union in Dundalk in County Louth back in January.

It is understood Gardaí believe the suspect is one of five gang members who took part in the robbery.

Gardaí believe the suspect flew to Britain first and then travelled to America from there.

It is understood that, because he is from the North he had a choice of using a British or Irish passport, and it is believed he used a British passport to get into the States.

It is said that the warrants out for the man are for much smaller offences and when he left the Republic of Ireland, there was no bench warrant from the Republic for him.

The five people involved in the robbery in Co Louth are believed to be part of a wider gang of 12 to 15 people.
