Fáilte Ireland survey: 41% of tourists think Ireland good value
A new survey by Fáilte Ireland has found that nearly a fifth of tourists coming to Ireland still think it is a rip off, with 17% saying it is poor value for money.
However, that is an improvement from 41% finding it too expensive three years ago.
The survey of more than 1,500 overseas visitors finds that four out of ten tourists think Ireland is good value.
Alex Connolly of Fáilte Ireland said it is a turnaround from the perception of Ireland during the boom, that may have put people off coming here.
Mr Connolly said: "One of the complaints everyone has picked up from people who visited Ireland was that we had become quite expensive.
"Unfortunately that message had percolated out as well, and a lot of people who may have come to Ireland in the past maybe considered not coming because they thought we were a high-cost destination.
"Thankfully, that has now turned on its head and we have very strong value-for-money figures out today which show Ireland is proving to be a very good value proposition for people who want to travel overseas."
