Locals 'shocked and worried' after man's death in Tipperary mine
Locals have been left in shock following the death of a man in a mine in Co Tipperary.
The man who was in his 40s was driving a loader when it became trapped in a shaft after a rockfall at a lead and zinc mine near Thurles at around a 4.45pm yesterday.
Health and Safety Authority investigators are on site at Lisheen mine, where it is expected that three separate investigations will be launched into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Emergency services are currently working to recover the body.
Speaking to Beat 102 - 103, local woman Karen O'Halloran said the community was in shock.
"A lot people are shocked and worried about his family and kids," she said. "Only a year ago, a man was killed att he same place."
