Doctors assess man after Garda stabbed in Co Cork

A man is being psychiatrically assessed in hospital after an incident in Fermoy, Co Cork, yesterday in which a Garda was stabbed in the hand.

The incident happened at Cork Marts at around 8pm last night after a man tried to block cars leaving the mart with his truck.

The officer from Fermoy station was stabbed in the hand as he tried to take the keys from the ignition of the truck.

Gardaí are hoping to question the man and are waiting for the go-ahead from doctors.
