Man stabs garda in hand in Co Cork

A garda has been stabbed in the hand during a stand-off with a man at Cork Marts near Fermoy last night.

The incident happened at around 8pm last night after a the man tried to block cars leaving the mart with his truck.

An officer from Fermoy station was stabbed in the hand as he tried to take the keys from the ignition of the truck. The driver of the truck was then overpowered by the Garda's colleagues.

The injured officer suffered a serious injury to his hand and is being treated at Cork University Hospital.

The man was brought to Fermoy Garda Station.
