ABP boss confirms Silvercrest used non-approved suppliers

The Chief Executive of ABP, which owns Silvercrest Foods in Monaghan, has told a Commons Committee hearing into the horsemeat scandal- that the company had used non-approved suppliers.

Paul Finnerty was answering questions about how equine DNA was found in burgers that wound up on British supermarket shelves.

Mr Finnerty insisted that the contaminated product had not originated in Ireland - and said he was certain that it was bought in from Poland.

He said unapproved suppliers had been used, but that the company has taken steps to ensure that this will never happen again
