Beware of the bridge

A motorist who is scared of bridges called the police when his satnav accidentally directed him to a river crossing.

The mystery man – who suffers from gephyrophobia, an anxiety disorder brought about through a fear of crossing bridges – dialed 999 when he realised he was about to go through the Dartford river crossing in Kent, south east England.

Despite the operator telling him he would only be going through a tunnel rather than a bridge, he was still too scared to cross and had to wait for a police car to turn up and an officer had to drive his car through the crossing with him as a passenger.
