Cattle and Sheep farmers call on processors with concerns to come forward

The Irish Cattle and Sheep Farmers Association is calling on any meat processors who may have concerns about their own products to come forward immediately.

The Cabinet was due to be briefed by the Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney earlier today on the latest developments in the horsemeat scandal.

Today’s comments from the association comes after some samples of beef at Rangeland Foods in Co Monaghan were found to have contained 75% horse DNA.

General Secretary Eddie Punch says the dripfeed of revelations is causing serious problems: “I think we need to get to the bottom of this as quickly as possible. We call on all processors now who have any concerns or doubts to immediately come forward.

"It’s not good to have a gradual dripfeed of revelations and bad news stories, it undermines the ability to win back custom that has been lost.”
