Sex offender's likelihood of re-offending to be assessed

A Dublin court has today asked the Probation Service to assess a sex offender's likelihood of re-offending, after hearing how he assaulted two underage girls.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, abused the girls when they were 12 and 17 years old.

The 35-year-old defendant was threatened with a knife and punched in the face by a relative of one of the victims following the attack during a Dublin house party.

The Judge at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court has adjourned sentencing until April to allow for the preparation of a probation report.
