A search was launched by the Galway RNLI Lifeboat and the Irish Coastguard Helicopter earlier today, after a man was reported missing.

The alarm was first raised by a friend of the missing person who was last seen on Barna beach yesterday.

In the past hour, a body was recovered from the sea around two miles west of Barna.

The remains have been taken to to Galway airport for transfer to hospital, along with one of the RNLI crew.
