New driving licence format to be launched today

Transport Minister Leo Varadkar will launch the new credit-card sized drivers licence today.

The measure is part of an EU Directive to upgrade and standardise all licences across the 27-member bloc.

Existing licences will still be valid, and will be changed to the new format when at time of renewal.
