Met Eireann have revealed that rainfall was above average across the west of the country last month, while parts of Dublin recordest their driest month in 11 years.

Met Eireann have revealed that rainfall was above average across the west of the country last month, while parts of Dublin recordest their driest month in 11 years.

Weather stations at Claremorris in Mayo, Athenry in Galway and Fermoy, Co Cork, reported their wettest December since 2006.

However, the wettest day was at Athenry on December 22 when almost 25 millmetres of rain was recorded.

Met Eireann said the number of wet days was above average everywhere last month, except for the east and Midlands.

On the other hand, temperatures were above average in the south, south-west and some parts of the west.

The Phoenix Park in Dublin recorded a temperature of 14.1 degrees on December 22.

s the month played out with some very stormy nights, Met Eireann said some parts of the country had their highest December gusts in 15 years.
