McGuinness steps down as Mid-Ulster MP

Northern Ireland's Deputy First Minister, Martin McGuinness, has stepped down as the MP for Mid-Ulster.

He will remain a member of the MLA.

He said the move was in line with his party's commitment to end double jobbing.

Mr McGuinness was elected MP for Mid-Ulster in 1997, but he has never taken his seat in Westminster.

A by-election is expected to be held in the New Year.
