Maghaberry standards 'improving, but long way to go: report

Standards at Maghaberry Prison in Lisburn, Co. Antrim are improving but there's still a long way to go.

A new inspection report published today, finds an improvement in standards at the jail, since it was inspected three years ago.

However inspectors were concerned that there was no effective monitoring of violent incidents, to identify when or where they were likely to occur, or how they could be prevented.

The report also found that too many prisoners have insufficient purposeful activity during their time there.
