Vintners: Alcohol price rises will cost 10,000 jobs

The Vintners Federation of Ireland has said 10c increase on the price of a pint will cost up to 10,000 jobs in the sector.

The price rise will happen by midnight, and €1 will be added to the price of a bottle of wine at that time also.

CEO of the federation, Padraig Cribben, said: "Bear in mind that it is not just the €1 on the bottle of wine and the 10c, there is also VAT to go on top of those figures.

"So it is €1.23 on the bottle of wine, and it is almost 13c on the pint and it is almost 13c on the small one, because we have a system here where we put tax on tax."
