Visitors asked to stay away from hospital to avoid winter vomiting bug

Anyone with family or friends at St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin is asked to stay away for the time being because of an outbreak of the winter vomiting bug.

The hospital has had to stop all visits to the Acute Medical Unit and is appealing to people not to bring children to other parts of the hospital.

So far, 44 patients have been affected since Friday with what the hospital says is a "particularly virulent strain" of the virus.
