Govt to separate Shannon from DAA in effort to create jobs

The Government has said it intends to separate Shannon Airport from the Dublin Airport Authority on December 31.

It is hoped the move will create 3,000 new jobs at Shannon - as the airport will be developed into an international centre for aviation-industry services - including pilot, crew and aviation-engineering-training facilities.

The Transport Minister Leo Varadkar and the Jobs Minister Richard Bruton are due to formally announce the Government's proposals on Monday.

Unions have said they will resist the move, with ICTU's General Secretary David Begg saying the proposals are "founded on blind faith and wishful thinking on the part of certain interests".
